The Artist: Wendy S. Finger:
I grew up in Wisconsin surrounded by a beautiful north woods forest that ended at Lake Michigan, my front yard. Because of this I have always found calm and peace in nature, especially in the movement and transparency of water.
I came to St. Louis to attend college and made it my home. As my first retirement activity, I decided to explore new ideas outside of my profession. Since I've always been captivated by glass and its ability to generate emotion, while capturing light and color, I signed up for my first glass class and was hooked.
As a lover of the visual arts, and glasswork specifically, I am fascinated by the exploration of this media and being able to use it to express ideas. Much of my glasswork involves water in its various forms, by capturing movement through bubbles in clear and colored transparent glass, or by unfolding Nature's designs with sandblasting or etching. And some of my work just explores the fun or serenity of life through the interplay of light, color and shape.
I believe my glass evokes feelings of wonder, calm, or pleasure, and, at the very least creates a smile. And I hope others find joy and serenity in my work.
